Free Electron Laser in a Stripline Geometry

چکیده
A thin dielectric slab over a conducting sheet is a low-loss slow-wave guiding system. When one introduces a magnetic wiggler into the system one may efficiently excite millimeter waves by passing a sheet electron beam just above the dielectric surface. For realistic parameters, the energy requirements on the beam are greatly reduced due to the wiggler. The frequency u, and the growth rate G are very sensitive to beam energy. G scales as l'h Bl with beam current Ih and wiggler strength Bo and decreases with increasing width of the dielectric and increasing u,.

Tunable fluid-loaded free-electron laser in the low-electron-energy and long-wavelength extreme
A tunable fluid-loaded free-electron laser ~FEL! oscillator is demonstrated. This FEL-type experiment employs low-energy electrons, down to 0.4 keV. Therefore, it interacts with extremely long radio waves, in the VHF range (l.1 m). The device consists of a folded-foil planar wiggler (lW54 cm), and a double-stripline cavity. The variable dielectric loading is implemented by distilled water in gl...
متن کاملSelf-Fields Effects on Gain in a Helical Wiggler Free Electron Laser with Ion-Channel Guiding and Axial Magnetic Field
In this paper, we have investigated the effects of self-fields on gain in a helical wiggler free electron laser with axial magnetic field and ion-channel guiding. The self-electric and self-magnetic fields of a relativistic electron beam passing through a helical wiggler are analyzed. The electron trajectories and the small signal gain are derived. Numerical investigation is shown that for grou...

متن کاملPropagation and Interaction of Electrostatic and Electromagnetic Waves in Two Stream Free Electron Laser in the Presence of Self-Fields
A relativistic theory for two-stream free electron laser (FEL) with a one-dimensional helical wiggler and ion-channel guiding in the presence of self-fields are presented. A dispersion relation (DR) which includes coupling between the electromagnetic and the electrostatic waves is derived from a fluid model, with all of the relativistic terms related to the transverse wiggler motion. This DR is...
متن کاملAnomalous free electron laser interaction
Free electron lasers (FELs) are considered, typically, as fast wave devices. The normal FEL interaction satisfies the tuning condition oDðkz þ kWÞVz , where o and kz are the em-wave angular frequency and longitudinal wave number, respectively, Vz is the electron axial speed, and kW is the wiggler periodicity. This paper presents an anomalous FEL interaction, which may occur in slow-wave FELs (i...
